Ionosonde
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006651
A radar-like instrument used to probe the ionosphere by transmitting radio waves vertically upwards and measuring the time delay and amplitude of the reflected signals. By varying the frequency of the transmitted waves, it can determine the electron density profile and the virtual heights of the ionospheric layers. The data collected by an ionosonde are displayed as an ionogram.
