Relative ionospheric opacity meter
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008506
An instrument, often abbreviated as RIOMETER, that measures the absorption of cosmic radio noise by the ionosphere. This absorption is directly related to the density of free electrons in the D-region of the ionosphere, which is affected by solar flares and other energetic particle events. RIOMETER data provides insights into space weather impacts on radio communication.
