Opacity

The degree to which a substance or medium obstructs the passage of electromagnetic radiation, such as light or infrared radiation. In the atmosphere, opacity is influenced by the presence of clouds, aerosols, and absorbing gases. High opacity means less radiation can pass through, while low opacity means more radiation can penetrate.
