Solar aureole

A bright, whitish or yellowish ring of light immediately surrounding the Sun, caused by the forward scattering of sunlight by small atmospheric particles, such as dust or haze. Its appearance indicates the presence of aerosols in the atmosphere. The size and intensity of the aureole can provide information about aerosol properties.
