Bishop's ring

A large, whitish or bluish-white halo observed around the sun or moon, often with a brownish-red outer border. This optical phenomenon is caused by the diffraction of light by very fine dust particles in the upper atmosphere. It was first widely observed after the 1883 eruption of Krakatoa.
