Halo of 46°

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006159

A less common optical phenomenon appearing as a circular ring of light with an angular radius of 46 degrees around the sun or moon. It forms through the refraction of light by hexagonal ice crystals, similar to the 22-degree halo, but involves light passing through different faces of the crystal. This halo is typically fainter and less frequently observed than its 22-degree counterpart.
