Hevel's halo

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006235

A rare atmospheric optical phenomenon, also known as a 23-degree halo, that appears as a faint, circular ring of light around the sun or moon. It is caused by the refraction of sunlight or moonlight through hexagonal ice crystals in the atmosphere, specifically those with a particular orientation. This halo is less common and typically fainter than the more frequently observed 22-degree halo.
