Heuristic
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006234
A practical approach or method for problem-solving that employs a trial-and-error strategy, often involving rules of thumb or educated guesses, to find a satisfactory solution rather than an optimal one. In meteorology, heuristic methods are used in numerical weather prediction models and climate simulations to approximate complex physical processes that are computationally expensive to model precisely. These methods can provide reasonable estimates for phenomena like cloud formation or turbulent mixing.
