Parameterization
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007798
The representation of physical processes that are too small or complex to be explicitly resolved by a numerical model through their effects on larger scales. This technique is necessary for phenomena such as cloud formation, precipitation, and turbulent mixing in atmospheric models. Parameterizations are developed using theoretical understanding, observations, and high-resolution simulations.
