Closure assumptions
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004401
Simplifying hypotheses made in atmospheric and climate models to represent complex physical processes that cannot be explicitly resolved at the model's grid scale. These assumptions relate unresolved small-scale phenomena, such as turbulence or cloud microphysics, to the larger-scale resolved variables. Parameterization schemes are built upon these assumptions to provide realistic model outputs.
