Third-order closure

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009630

A method used in atmospheric modeling to represent the effects of turbulent eddies on the mean flow by parameterizing the third-order moments of turbulent fluctuations. This approach attempts to provide a more detailed description of turbulence than first or second-order closures, but it introduces additional complexity and requires more assumptions. It is often employed in high-resolution models of the atmospheric boundary layer.
