Turbulence closure

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009840

A set of mathematical models or hypotheses used to represent the effects of unresolved turbulent motions in atmospheric and oceanic models. Since directly simulating all turbulent eddies is computationally infeasible, closure schemes parameterize these effects using mean flow variables. Common approaches include K-theory and higher-order closure models.
