Local closure

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007007

A modeling assumption in which turbulent fluxes at a given point are parameterized solely based on the mean gradients of atmospheric variables at that same point. This approach simplifies the representation of turbulence in numerical weather prediction models. Local closure schemes, such as K-theory, are often used in the atmospheric boundary layer.
