Mellor-Yamada parameterization

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010608

A set of turbulence closure schemes used in atmospheric and oceanic models to represent the effects of turbulent mixing. These schemes provide prognostic equations for turbulent kinetic energy and other moments, allowing for a more detailed representation of vertical transport processes. Different levels of complexity exist, ranging from simple eddy diffusivity models to more sophisticated two-equation models.
