Melt pond

A pool of meltwater that forms on the surface of sea ice or glaciers during the warmer months. These ponds absorb more solar radiation than the surrounding ice, accelerating further melting. Their presence significantly impacts the albedo of ice surfaces and contributes to ice mass loss.
