Water bleeding

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010099

The upward movement and emergence of free water from a saturated soil or sediment column, typically caused by compaction or the settling of solid particles. This process reduces the water content of the material as water is forced out of the pore spaces and accumulates on the surface. It is a concept primarily from soil mechanics and civil engineering that also applies to natural saturated soils under pressure.
