Shallow convection parameterization
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008819
A set of mathematical equations and assumptions used in numerical weather and climate models to represent the effects of convective clouds that are too small to be explicitly resolved. Shallow convection is confined to the lower troposphere and does not produce heavy precipitation, unlike deep convection. This parameterization calculates the vertical transport of heat, moisture, and momentum by these sub-grid scale clouds, influencing the model's temperature and humidity profiles.
