Halocarbons
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006160
A group of chemical compounds containing carbon and one or more halogen atoms, such as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine. Many halocarbons are potent greenhouse gases and ozone-depleting substances, contributing to climate change and stratospheric ozone depletion. Examples include chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which have been regulated by international agreements like the Montreal Protocol.
