Carbon tetrachloride

A colorless liquid with a sweet odor, composed of one carbon atom and four chlorine atoms. It was formerly widely used as a solvent and in fire extinguishers but is now largely phased out due to its ozone-depleting properties. Carbon tetrachloride is a potent greenhouse gas and a regulated substance under the Montreal Protocol.
