Carbon source

Any process or activity that releases carbon dioxide or other carbon-containing compounds into the atmosphere. Natural carbon sources include volcanic eruptions, respiration by living organisms, and decomposition of organic matter. Anthropogenic carbon sources, such as the burning of fossil fuels, have significantly increased atmospheric carbon concentrations.
