Volatiles
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010048
Chemical elements and compounds with low boiling points that readily vaporize into a gaseous state under ambient atmospheric conditions. These substances include water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, sulfur dioxide, and a large group of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Volatiles are emitted from both natural sources, such as volcanoes and vegetation, and anthropogenic activities, influencing climate and air quality.
