SOx
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009078
A group of sulfur and oxygen compounds, primarily sulfur dioxide (SO2) and sulfur trioxide (SO3), that are considered atmospheric pollutants. These gases are released into the atmosphere from both natural sources, such as volcanic eruptions, and anthropogenic activities, especially the combustion of fossil fuels containing sulfur. In the atmosphere, sulfur oxides (SOx) can react with water and other substances to form sulfuric acid, a main component of acid rain.
