Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002996
A type of air pollution consisting of volcanic gases and aerosols, primarily sulfur dioxide, that react with atmospheric moisture and oxygen to form sulfuric acid and other particulate matter. It is typically associated with active volcanoes, such as those in Hawaii. Vog can cause respiratory problems and reduce visibility.
Vog, short for volcanic smog, is the haze formed by gas and fine particle emissions from volcanoes.
