Acid pollution
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003231
The contamination of the atmosphere, land, and water bodies by acidic substances, primarily sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, released from human activities. These pollutants react in the atmosphere to form sulfuric and nitric acids, which are then deposited as acid rain, snow, fog, or dry particles. Acid pollution leads to environmental degradation, including acidification of lakes and forests.
