Aggressive water
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003365
Water that is corrosive to materials like metal and concrete, typically because it is soft and has a low pH, making it acidic. Its corrosive properties are enhanced by low concentrations of dissolved calcium carbonate and a high concentration of dissolved carbon dioxide. In atmospheric science, acid rain is a form of aggressive water, formed when pollutants like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with atmospheric water to form strong acids.
