Soft water
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010764
Water containing low concentrations of dissolved mineral ions, especially divalent cations like calcium and magnesium. Atmospheric precipitation, including rain and melted snow, is naturally soft because the process of evaporation and condensation leaves these non-volatile minerals behind. Water is generally classified as soft if it contains fewer than 60 milligrams per liter of calcium carbonate equivalents.
