Graupel
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-001178
Precipitation consisting of ice particles that form when supercooled water droplets accrete onto an ice crystal or snowflake, creating a soft, opaque, and spherical or conical pellet. These particles are larger and less dense than sleet, and they readily crumble when pressed. Graupel often occurs in convective clouds and is sometimes referred to as soft hail or snow pellets.
Same as snow pellets or small hail.
