Grass temperature

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006034

The temperature measured by a thermometer with its bulb exposed to the open air and positioned just above the tips of short, cut grass. This reading indicates the minimum temperature that exposed surfaces at ground level are likely to reach overnight due to radiative cooling. On clear, calm nights, the grass temperature is almost always lower than the standard air temperature measured 1.25 to 2 meters above the ground, sometimes by several degrees Celsius.
