Wet-bulb thermometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010220
A thermometer whose bulb is covered with a wet cloth, typically muslin, and exposed to airflow to measure the temperature of air cooled by evaporation. As water evaporates from the cloth, it draws latent heat from the bulb, causing its temperature to drop. The reading from this instrument, when compared with a dry-bulb thermometer, is used to determine atmospheric humidity.
