Wet-bulb potential temperature
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010219
The temperature a parcel of air would have if it were cooled adiabatically to saturation and then brought adiabatically to a standard pressure level, typically 1000 hPa, while remaining saturated. This thermodynamic quantity is conserved during moist adiabatic processes and is useful for identifying air masses and assessing atmospheric stability. It is always less than or equal to the equivalent potential temperature.
