Ground frost

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006085

The formation of ice crystals on surfaces exposed to the air near the ground, such as grass, car windshields, or pavement, when the surface temperature falls below freezing. This occurs even if the air temperature measured at standard height (typically 2 meters) remains above 0°C. Ground frost is a common occurrence on clear, calm nights with radiative cooling.
