Frozen ground

Soil or rock where the temperature remains at or below 0 degrees Celsius for an extended period, causing the water within its pores to freeze. This condition can be seasonal, as in seasonally frozen ground, or perennial, as in permafrost. The presence of frozen ground significantly impacts hydrological processes and engineering projects.
