Soil stripe

A linear pattern of bare ground or vegetation that forms in periglacial environments due to frost heave and solifluction. These features are oriented downslope and result from the differential movement of soil particles and stones. Soil stripes are a common indicator of active permafrost or seasonally frozen ground.
