Soil temperature
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009019
The measurement of heat within the soil profile, recorded at specific, standardized depths below the surface. This parameter influences biological processes such as seed germination and root growth, as well as physical processes like the rate of water infiltration and the exchange of energy with the overlying atmosphere. Standard measurement depths include 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 centimeters, providing a profile of the thermal conditions.
