Soil air

The gaseous phase within the pore spaces of soil, consisting primarily of nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide, along with water vapor and trace gases. Its composition differs from the free atmosphere due to biological activity and gas exchange with soil water. The concentration of carbon dioxide in soil air is typically higher than in the ambient atmosphere.
