Trace gas

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009731

A gaseous atmospheric constituent present in very small concentrations, typically less than 1% by volume. These gases, despite their low abundance, can significantly influence atmospheric chemistry and radiative transfer. Examples include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone, which are measured in parts per million or parts per billion.
