Nitrous oxide
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007555
A potent greenhouse gas with the chemical formula N2O, naturally produced by bacterial processes in soil and oceans. It is also emitted from agricultural activities, industrial processes, and the combustion of fossil fuels. Nitrous oxide has a global warming potential approximately 265 times that of carbon dioxide over a 100-year period and contributes to stratospheric ozone depletion.
