Nitrogen dioxide

A reddish-brown gas with the chemical formula NO2, characterized by a pungent, acrid odor. It is a major air pollutant primarily emitted from the combustion of fossil fuels in vehicles and power plants. Nitrogen dioxide contributes to the formation of ground-level ozone and fine particulate matter, and is a key component in the formation of acid rain.
