Methane

A colorless, odorless gas and the simplest hydrocarbon, with the chemical formula CH₄. It is a potent greenhouse gas, significantly contributing to global warming, and is produced naturally by anaerobic decomposition and anthropogenically through activities like agriculture and fossil fuel extraction. Methane has an atmospheric lifetime of approximately 12 years.
