Methanesulfonic acid

A strong organic acid formed in the atmosphere from the oxidation of dimethyl sulfide, a compound primarily emitted by marine phytoplankton. It is a key component of marine aerosols and contributes to cloud condensation nuclei formation. Its concentration is often highest in remote marine boundary layers.
