Dimethyl sulfoxide

An organic sulfur compound with the chemical formula (CH3)2SO, which is an oxidation product of dimethyl sulfide in the atmosphere. It is a water-soluble compound that can exist in both gaseous and particulate phases. Dimethyl sulfoxide contributes to the atmospheric sulfur cycle and can be further oxidized to methanesulfonic acid and sulfate aerosols.
