Dimethyl sulfide
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010476
A volatile organic compound with the chemical formula (CH3)2S, produced primarily by marine phytoplankton. It is released into the atmosphere and is the most abundant natural sulfur compound in the marine boundary layer. Dimethyl sulfide oxidizes in the atmosphere to form sulfate aerosols, which can act as cloud condensation nuclei.
