Hydrogen sulfide

A colorless, highly toxic gas with a characteristic rotten egg smell, produced by the decomposition of organic matter in anaerobic conditions. It is released into the atmosphere from natural sources such as swamps, volcanoes, and hot springs, as well as from industrial activities. In the atmosphere, it can oxidize to sulfur dioxide, contributing to acid deposition.
