Hydrogen chloride

A colorless, corrosive gas with a pungent odor, formed by the reaction of hydrogen and chlorine. In the atmosphere, it can be released from volcanic eruptions, industrial processes, and the combustion of chlorine-containing materials. It dissolves readily in water to form hydrochloric acid, contributing to acid rain and influencing atmospheric chemistry.
