Hydrogeochemistry
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006323
The study of the chemical composition of groundwater and surface waters, and the reactions and processes that control their chemistry. It examines how water interacts with minerals in rocks and soils and how atmospheric inputs, such as acid rain or marine aerosols, influence water quality from the point of precipitation. This field provides the basis for understanding contaminant transport and the evolution of water quality within the hydrologic cycle.
