Formic acid

The simplest carboxylic acid, with the chemical formula HCOOH, found in the atmosphere as both a gas and in aerosol particles. It is produced from the oxidation of biogenic and anthropogenic volatile organic compounds. Formic acid contributes to atmospheric acidity and can be deposited to surfaces through wet and dry deposition processes.
