Fortin barometer

A type of mercury barometer designed for high precision, featuring a cistern with a flexible leather bottom and an adjusting screw. This mechanism allows the mercury level in the cistern to be set precisely to a fixed ivory point before each reading. It provides accurate atmospheric pressure measurements, often used as a standard for calibrating other barometers.
