Methane

The simplest hydrocarbon, a colorless and odorless gas with the chemical formula CH4, and the primary component of natural gas. It is a potent greenhouse gas and forms naturally from the decomposition of organic matter under anaerobic conditions. Methane is a major fuel source and a feedstock for chemical production.
