Coalbed methane
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000723
Methane gas stored within coal seams, adsorbed onto the solid coal matrix. It is produced by drilling wells into the coal and lowering the hydrostatic pressure through water removal, which causes the methane to desorb and flow. This gas is a form of unconventional natural gas, distinct from methane found in conventional sandstone or carbonate reservoirs.
