Methane hydrate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002338
A solid, ice-like compound formed when methane gas is trapped within a cage of water molecules under specific conditions of high pressure and low temperature. These deposits occur in deep ocean sediments and permafrost regions, representing a vast, unconventional natural gas resource. Methane hydrates are unstable and can dissociate with changes in temperature or pressure, potentially releasing large volumes of methane.
